Bad Education and the codes

Bad Education is a TV show which shows the life of a secondary school teacher and his class. It shows what they get up to not just during class but outside of the school. But mostly focus on Alfie the teacher and his hopeless love affair with another teacher. The kids try and help him with this but it mostly just focuses on his relationship with the children in the photo and other teachers, and the situations they get put in during school.

Bad Education uses visual, technical and audio codes through out the program. The genre of this TV show is a comedy. I know this because it is a relaxed atmosphere throughout the show and it also constantly tells jokes and the sketches of the show is not a stereotypical school as the teacher does not really care about the children's education and more about his life and having a good time.

The visual codes the show mainly uses is the facial expressions and the body language to show the audience what the character is reacting to the situation that they are in. Even though they are involved in a conversation which they are using words they want to react and they can only do this by using facial expressions and body language. In the opening scene of Bad Education (series 2: episode 5) it focuses a lot on Alfie's face. As the character isn't talking he has to react with his face and body. As the camera is focusing on his face he needs to show the audience how he is feeling. The effect of his face reacting to what has been said is so the audience can know how he is feeling and what he thinks about the situation that he is in.
Another visual code is what he is wearing. As you can see by what he is wearing it is not what a stereotypical teacher would wear. This could then show he does not take his job serious, which then backs up the show being a comedy. I know this because by him wearing green trousers and a cardigan shows multiple reasons of the show having a humour feel about it. One reason is his idea of him looking good with what he is wearing, so his sense of style is not well presented here. Then this could show the audience he is a comedic character and by opening with him would instantly show its a comedy.

The technical codes of the show is very varied as they don't just keep to one shot they change it constantly to keep the audience engaged with the show. In the picture the shot that has been used is a long shot which then shows the audience the full character and not just his face or upper half which they do more for body language and facial features. By using a long shot it shows what Alfie is wearing and how he is walking which then would relate to the situation he is in.
Another technical code is the mise en scene, everything is placed there for a reason. The director has choose to have the back end of a car in the scene to show he is walking down the road and its a common street as the houses arent fancy and the car isn't expensive which shows what type a character he is. Which isn't a rich man its a average guy who works as a teacher. This then shows the audience that they can relate to characters through out more than someone who is rich and owns 10 horses.

Bad Education uses a lot of audio codes as it uses non diegetic sounds every time the scene changes. The music then reflects on what just happened the scene before. By having the music play every time the scene changes it keeps the audience engaged and entertained by which music is played and it also notifies the audience that the scene is changing and therefore the topic/subject of the scene is to.

Uses of Gratifications: Information

This film review does not only educate you on the movie but it also involves comedy, which most film reviews don't. The audience theory for this review is two step flow which is passive. The two step flow is showed here because he is well respected and not only he is that he could either make you watch a movie or not because his opinion is so well respected you do it to see wither he is giving a well opinionated review or hes making it up. JeremyJahns (you tuber) he has over 300,000 subscribes which proves he is good at what he does. Not only does he give his opinion on the film he also gives it ratings and involves a comedic vibe to the review. So your not just watching a boring person give there views on the film but a genuine guy who engages his audience  by adding facts not only about the film but the actors/actress in the movie.

So instead of watching or reading a basic review you get to really know his opinion because he expresses it not just with words but the pictures he adds to the side of the screen.

Uses and Gratifications: Personal Identity

I identify myself as part of the audience of awkward because its not like i can relate to any of  the characters but its more like i want to be like the min character. I would love to be noticed like Jenna does in awkward even if it just like her breaking her arm but having the most attractive guy and the most popular guy in school fall in love with you. Im not saying i want that to happen but just to be noticed by someone i would say thats how i relate. Also even though Jenna started off being unpopular she never really got to the top of the ladder of popularity she just upgraded by the people she dated and how she got invited to social gatherings. She never left her friends behind which makes awkward different to the stereotypical american teen TV show.

Blog Task: Age

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03b5qk6/Waterloo_Road_Series_9_Episode_2/

Waterloo Road

This TV representation shows teenagers in a negative light. This is because it only focus on the bad students or the negative stories. It never really shows anything positive and when it does the producers find away to turn it into something bad. Even through its a drama they always play things over the top and give people the wrong impressions on what school life is like. I personally enjoy watching waterloo road but it sometimes make my school seem boring compare to the antics the students get up to in Waterloo Road.

I  think the producer is constantly trying to portray the teenagers as stereotypical moody, horrible and by putting them in a bad and unstable school it shows the wrong side to what they are really like. I honestly think that the producer could every once in a while make Waterloo Road happy and excited that upsetting and harsh.

I do even though the points I would like to change I generally enjoy the show.

Blog Task: Sexuality

Alan Carr

Alan Carr is a well known gay man in today society. Not only is he a very funny comedian but also he is very open about who he is. I don't think his sexuality is anything to do wither he is funny or not. He obviously has not let people stopped him to achieve his dreams. Being homosexual these days is not 'frowned upon' unlike how it was a decades ago. He is one of the most well known gay man of today. He has achieved writing a book, hosting his own TV show and even being a guest in 'Live at the Apollo' as shown in the clip.

I think what Alan is trying to show with his TV and books that nothing and no one will get in the way of his dream. Which he hasn't. He has not only stood up for himself but also could be considered as a role model to many young and boys in denial.

Blog task: Race/Religion/Region

Geordie Shore- TV

The representation of Geordie Shore is negative in my opinion. They portray people from Newcastle as people who party all the time and just think about sex. They basically just show them as sex addicts and people who just generally want to party. Even though the show is entertaining and funny they never really do anything educational. They do work but they have easy jobs such as in one series they work giving people spray tans and in another series they work as naked butlers. Don't get me wrong the boys on the show have nice body's and its pleasurable to see but they could portray them in a different light instead of being stereotypical party people.

The producers portray them as people who like to party but who doesn't? The producers only show them either at the house, partying or working (but only for a short while) only very rarely they show them doing anything else. If you put nine or eight different people in the house at the same time I suppose they give you enough footage so you don't need to show them doing  anything else.

Oh I like Geordie Shore

Blog Task: Gender

Striptease 1996 - Film

The representation in this film basically tells the audience if they are broke to go into stripping to earn money in a short amount of time. Therefore the women in the movie is showed in a negative light. It basically says to forget your morels and your self respect and strip for men that will shower you in money. The only positive aspect of this film is that she does this for her child. Even though she gets money and her child gets to come home with her it still shows that women are seen as sex items even if they are trying to do something good. The women in this movie should of and could of done something else than become a stripper.

The producers here are trying to portray her as a caring mother who just wants her child back but they do this in the wrong light. The way i see it the producers are represent her as a sex object so she gets money and her child back. I like how much she wants her child back she's willing to do anything but they do this the wrong way.

Blog Task: Class

In the Daily mirror the Duchess of Cambridge was portrayed in a positive light. I know this because the newspaper talks about how she is dressed and her appearance for the first time from having a baby.
The values of the story is showing her and how well she is from having a  baby. All of the photos that are used here show how happy she is and how glamorous she is. There is not one photo that shows her unhappy or ugly. Therefore I had the idea of here and the royal family giving the paparazzi money to always show them in a good light. Recently they hasn't been anything bad in the press about the royal family. If the role family in fact has never been seen in a bad light.
The editors of the paper are basically saying its her first red carpet since the baby was born and how glamorous she is, basically saying how well she has recovered since child birth.

Catfish film review

My Review on Catfish.

Catfish is also a TV show but I will reviewing the film. The film is a documentary about online dating. The target audience for this would be people who are online dating which is 18+. Even though it is about dating and falling in love online it could also relate to teenagers who talk to people online who they have never met. Therefore it is aimed at a wide range of people. I think by doing this it attracts a wider audience which then means more people will view it.

How the film is edited and filmed is clever as you never know what's happening next. This then keeps the audience engaged and on the edge of there seat throughout. I really like how this is done. Catfish will make your jaw hit the floor in some spots and then make you laugh in others. It draws the audience in as you may think documentary's wouldn't.
